The Strangest Things In My Suitcase

Hey Reader

Last week I shared a few common travel items that have earned a permanent spot in our travel kit.

A whole bunch of you clicked through, which made me realize something.

Apparently I forgot some of the weird ones...

These are the weirdest travel items I swear by. Most people don't think to pack these, but I've found them all surprisingly useful over the years.

👕 Smell-Proof Laundry Bag

  • This comes on every trip.
  • It keeps dirty clothes separate from clean clothes, contains odors, and makes trips to the local laundromat much easier.
  • After a couple of weeks on the road, you'll understand why I love it.

💊 Jet Lag Relief Pellets

  • Whether they work because of science or a little bit of travel magic, I honestly don't know.
  • Compact and easy to take with you on overnight flights.
  • I've packed these on overnight flights for years. They're compact, easy to travel with, and have become part of my routine whenever I'm crossing multiple time zones.

🔇 Loop Ear Plugs

  • These are one of my newest travel finds.
  • They're comfortable enough to sleep in and great for airplanes, busy hotels, noisy neighbors, and long train rides.

🫧 Laundry Detergent Sheets

  • No leaks.
  • No liquid restrictions.
  • No bulky detergent bottles.
  • I throw a few sheets into a zip-loc bag and I'm set for the trip.

🛁 Silicone Sink Stopper

  • Tiny.
  • Cheap.
  • Easy to overlook.
  • But when you need to wash a few items in a hotel sink, it's worth its weight in gold.

It's funny how often the smallest and least expensive travel items end up being the most useful.

Curious what they look like or how they work?

I've linked all five above.

Hey Reader Rental car prices make absolutely no sense sometimes. We’ve paid less than expected booking months ahead… And we’ve also found shockingly good last-minute deals just days before a trip. That’s why I almost never book directly with the rental company anymore. Instead, I use car rental broker sites. If you’ve never used one before, they basically compare multiple rental companies at once so you can quickly see who actually has the best deal. Instead of checking every company...

a family smiling for the camera on a peak over the city of medellin, columbia

Dear Reader This month’s Spotlight on Subscriber takes us somewhere full of color, warmth, and a few surprises along the way. ☕ Colombia might not be on everyone’s radar, but after hearing about this trip, you might want to move it up your list. My friend (and neighbor!) Courtney recently spent 10 days exploring Medellín with her family - with a bonus day in Mexico City that started with an earthquake and ended at the zoo. From cable car rides over the city to climbing 700 stairs for sweeping...

Dear Reader We just got back from two weeks in Guadeloupe, and I think it might be my new favorite Caribbean island. Not only is it culturally rich, but nature is on a whole other level there. We are currently in the depths of winter, and I bet there are a few of you looking for that next sunny destination... If you are.. keep reading.
